For the Denver men's hockey team, construction of the Miller Hockey Complex was guided by a mindset: build with space to add. Leaving room for more banners, awards and trophies was non-negotiable. Many years after initial discussions about locker room renovations, and support from University of Denver's Board of Trustees member John A. Miller, his wife, Sandy, and their family, the Pioneers have built a complex honoring the program's past and laying groundwork for the future.
"Words cannot describe the impact this new space will have on our current student-athletes and the recruitment of future student-athletes," Richard and
Kitzia Goodman Head Coach
David Carle said. "We are thankful to John and Sandy Miller for their generous contributions and all the donors who made this project possible. Our student-athletes have a special place to prepare for practice and games, rehab and recover, and support their nutritional needs. We are always striving to do things the right way at Denver and the Miller Hockey Complex is no exception. We are so excited to call it our home for years to come."
At 4,464 square feet, the Miller Hockey Complex is more than 2,000 square feet larger than the previous space, housing the lockers, lounge, sauna, kitchen, training room and equipment room. Located on the north end of
Magness Arena, the Miller Hockey Complex pays tribute to Pioneer legends from each generation, a clear example of that being the mural on the Steve Cook/Jon Cook/Marc
Rycroft Hockey Hallway which leads to a Murray Armstrong display, glass case holding all eight National Championship trophies and main entrance into a beautiful, practical complex.
"The combination of academic and athletic success at the University of Denver is unparalleled nationwide," Miller said. "We, as alumni, must continue to support our student-athletes in both academic programs and athletic facilities. My family and I are pleased to support the Hockey Complex project as it further demonstrates the University of Denver's commitment to excellence."
Past the Jim A.
Wiste Dry Locker Room is the entrance to the wet locker room where an illuminated interlocking DU logo hangs on the ceiling and a big-screen TV mounted below the word "Relentless" is stationed at the front of the room. Nameplates on each stall display the hometown of each player and donor plaques above each name represent all who made renovations possible.

Bozak/Paul
Stastny Team Lounge, leading to the Paul
Libner/Angelo Ricci Coaches' Locker Room, Keith
Magnuson Video Room and hallway showcasing team and individual accomplishments since the inception of the program in 1949. Down the hallway are the
McMorris Family Hockey Wellness Center and the
Parilla Family Skate Room. The donor appreciation wall is displayed just inside the second entrance.
As the final graphics were being hung on the walls of the Miller Hockey Complex, Carle passed a display of replica National Championship banners and noted the uneven arrangement. Five banners on the top, three banners on the bottom and room to add a couple more.
