DENVER – The University of Denver women's basketball team will host the Denver Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday at Hamilton Gymnasium.
The Pioneers (3-1) will host the Lamar Cardinals (3-1) on Friday at 3:30 PM and the St. Bonaventure Bonnies (2-2) again at 3:30 PM on Saturday afternoon.
Coach Turgeon's squad is off to a 3-1 start thanks to consistent offensive output that has seen Denver go over 80 points in three games and over 90 in two. The Crimson and Gold are led by junior guard
Lauren Loven who scored 27 points against American on Monday afternoon. After coming up one point shy of trying her career-high Loven and the Pioneers will face off against two teams with contrasting styles as Lamar averages over 80 points while St. Bonaventure just over 68.
Lamar head coach Robin Harmony will lean on Moe Kinard (17.8 points per game) to try and pick up the program's first victory over Denver. Fifth-year head coach Harmony also relies on Miya Crump (6.8 rebounds per game) and Chastadie Barrs (4.0 assists per game) to complement her senior guard.
Jesse Fleming, third-year head coach at St. Bonaventure, gets well-rounded output from his roster but Asianae Johnson (12.8 points per game) paces the team while McKenna Maycock dishes out 10 assists per game. The Bonnies who are off to a solid 2-2 start, are looking to finish with a record over .500 for the first time since the 2015-16 team finished 24-8 and reached the second round of the NCAA tournament.
St. Bonaventure and Ohio will play a neutral site game on Friday at 1 PM while Ohio and Lamar play a neutral site game on Saturday at 1 PM.
