Madison Nelson Named Summit League Player of the Week

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – University of Denver women's basketball junior forward Madison Nelson has been named the Summit League Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The honor is Denver's second Summit League Player of the Week after Lauren Loven won its' first last season.

Denver went 3-0 last week with wins over American (83-54), Lamar (117-110 – 2OT) and St. Bonaventure (76-62).

Nelson a native of Dover, Minnesota, recorded back-to-back double-doubles against Lamar and St. Bonaventure. On Friday she tallied the first 20-point, 20-rebound game in Denver's Division I history with 23 points and 20 rebounds in the Pioneers thrilling victory over Lamar in double-overtime. Nelson then produced another double-double on Saturday, scoring 20 points while grabbing 17 rebounds to help Denver past St. Bonaventure.
  • Nelson's 20/20 game is the first in The Summit League since 2014 when Oral Roberts Vicky McIntyre did it three times.
  • She becomes just the third Summit League student-athlete in the last four years to grab at least 20 rebounds in a game.
  • Her 20 rebounds against Lamar is the most in The Summit League this season.
  • Her two double-doubles gives her three for her career and she is one of two Summit League players with multiple double-doubles this season.
Next Up: Denver will return to the court Saturday afternoon when the Pioneers host Loyola Marymount at 1 p.m. MT in Hamilton Gymnasium.

TOGETHER 4 COLORADO TOY DRIVE:
The Pioneers have partnered with CBS4 for the Together 4 Colorado Toy Drive to support the Denver community during the holiday season. Beginning Nov. 17, there will be toy drops at every Denver Athletics and Newman Center event thru Dec. 19. Additionally, there will be a Community Shop 'n Drop on Saturday, Dec. 15 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., hosted by the Denver Cheerleading squad at the circle drive on the north side of the Ritchie Center.
