DENVER – The University of Denver women's basketball team hosts the Loyola Marymount Lions on Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Gymnasium at 1 p.m. MT.
The Pioneers are 5-1 and are currently on a three-game winning streak dating back to November 19
th. Coach Turgeon's squad ranks 98
th in the RPI and is receiving votes in the College Insider Mid-Major poll. DU offers a balanced attack with five players averaging double-figure points and three others averaging at least seven. The Crimson and Gold average 87.7 points per game behind
Lauren Loven (20.2 points per game),
Claire Gritt (12.2 points per game),
Courtney Smith (12.0 points per game),
Madison Nelson (11.8 points per game) and
Sydney Mech (10.3 points per game). Coach
Jim Turgeon's up-tempo style of play combined with solid shooting has allowed Denver to sprint past its opponents this season as DU holds the opposition to just 73.5 points per game.
Loyola Marymount is off to a strong start at 5-1, with wins over UCLA (69-63) and Arizona (66-64) and is ranked 22
nd in the College Insider Mid-Major poll. Seventh-year head coach Charity Elliot uses a defensive style of play that allows the Lions to hold opponents to just 60.0 points per game and 36.5 percent from the floor. Chelsey Gipson (14.8 points per game) and Jasmine Jones (11.8 points per game) lead the way for Loyola Marymount while Bree Alford controls the glass (10.8 rebounds per game). The contest will be one of contrasting styles as the Pioneers will look to get out and run against the defensive Lion squad.

The Pioneers have partnered with CBS4 for the Together 4 Colorado Toy Drive to support the Denver community during the holiday season. Beginning Nov. 17, there will be toy drops at every Denver Athletics and Newman Center event thru Dec. 19. Additionally, there will be a Community Shop 'n Drop on Saturday, Dec. 15 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., hosted by the Denver Cheerleading squad at the circle drive on the north side of the Ritchie Center.
