[RV]Pioneers Finish Regular Season With Two Road Matches

DENVER— The University of Denver women's volleyball team will hit the road to wrap up the 2018 regular season with two away matches, first on Friday, Nov. 9 against Western Illinois at 6 p.m. MT and then on Sunday, Nov. 11 at Purdue Fort Wayne at 11 a.m. MT.

The Pioneers will look to cap off a perfect season in Summit League play, entering the final road trip of the campaign with a 24-1 record and a 13-0 mark in the league. Last week, Denver clinched its fifth-consecutive Summit League Regular Season title. 

Denver continues its historic season, winning 22 straight matches for the first time in program history. The Crimson and Gold also received votes in the AVCA DI Coaches Poll for the second week in a row (11, previously five), and rank top-25 in the NCAA in six categories: No. 1 in aces per set (2.11), No. 3 in total aces (194), No. 3 in match win/loss percentage (.960), No. 4 in opponent hitting percentage (.139), No. 15 in team hitting percentage (.272) and No. 18 in kills per set (14.03).

The Western Illinois Leathernecks hold a 2-24 record for the season, good for No. 9 in the league. WIU has gone 1-12 in league matches, having knocked off North Dakota State on Friday, Nov. 2 with a 3-1 victory. The Leathernecks average 10.2 kills per set, 9.5 assists, 1.2 aces, 13.9 digs and 1.9 blocks. Melanie Patenaude has recorded 202 kills on the year, Jamie Johnson has tallied 624 assists and Claire Grove leads with 355 digs.

Purdue Fort Wayne is 16-12 on the year, going an even 7-7 in league play to rank No. 4. The Mastodons are currently on a two game win streak, having defeated North Dakota 3-0 on Nov. 3 and North Dakota State 3-1 on Nov. 4. Purdue Fort Wayne averages 13.8 kills per set, 12.9 assists, one ace, 16.5 digs and 1.9 blocks. Nicole Rightnowar leads the team with 418 kills this season and Madison Jague leads with 1,054 assists.

The last time DU faced Western Illinois and Purdue Fort Wayne it swept both matches, adding to its third and fourth sweeps this season.
