Pioneers Head to Wyoming in Search of Fifth-Straight Win

DENVER – The University of Denver women's basketball team will travel outside the state of Colorado for the first time on Tuesday evening when the Pioneers travel to Laramie to face Wyoming.

Coach Jim Turgeon's team is off to a 6-1 start, the best start in DU Division I history and ranks inside the top 50 in the country in numerous statistical categories. Turgeon's up-tempo style of play offers multiple players scoring opportunities as five Pioneers average double-digit points this season led by Lauren Loven who is 23rd in the country in points per game (21.1 per game). Loven and her teammates rank inside the top 50 in the country in 14 different categories including top-five ranks in three-point percentage (1st – 44.6 percent), blocked shots per game (3rd – 7.6 per game), scoring offense (4th – 90.0 points per game), three's made (5th – 79) and three's per game (5th – 11.3 per game).

The Cowgirls are off to a solid 4-2 start under 16th year head coach Joe Legerski. Legerski's squad averages 74.2 points per game while holding opponents to just 56.2 points. Marta Gomez (16.8 points), Tereza Vitulova (11.0 points) and Bailee Cotton (10.2 points) average double-figures for Wyoming while Alba Sanchez Ramos (9.3) and Taylor Rusk (9.3) add to the balanced attack. Coming off of a 66-58 victory over Montana State, the Cowgirls will look to improve on an already impressive 21-4 all-time record over the Pioneers.

Wyoming downed Denver last season 61-51 in Hamilton Gymnasium as Claire Gritt led the Pioneers with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting.
