Shinyashiki Voted United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America

Senior Andre Shinyashiki becomes Denver’s second DI All-America selection in program history (Dunk in 2015 and 2016)

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. University of Denver men's soccer senior captain Andre Shinyashiki (Sao Paulo, Brazil) has been voted a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America selection, the coaches association announced on Thursday.

Shinyashiki joins former outside back Reagan Dunk as the only two Pioneers to earn Division I All-America status from the coaches' association. Dunk earned second team honors in 2015, before receiving first team status in 2016.

The 19th CoSIDA Academic All-American in DU Athletics history, was also recently been named a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, awarded to the most outstanding male and female players.

Shinyashiki enters the NCAA College Cup weekend first in the country in points per game (2.86), first in total points (60), first in goals per game (1.33), first in total goals (28), 14th in shot accuracy (60.6%), first in game-winning goals (11), second in shots per game (4.71) and first in shots on goal per game (2.86). Shinyashiki's goals per game tally is the highest since Andrew Mittendorf (Lehigh) netted 24 in 18 matches (1.33) in 1998. The Denver senior's points per game mark is the most since Conor Casey (Portland) had 23 goals and seven assists in 18 matches in 1999 (2.94).

Earlier this season, Shinyashiki became Denver's record holder in single-season points (60), goals (28) and game-winning goals (11), while setting Denver's career records in points (117), goals (51) and game-winning goals (18). The Sao Paulo, Brazil, native's goal total in 2018 eclipsed Denver's previous career record goal tally of 27.

Entering the NCAA Tournament, Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason No. 1 player had scored eight more goals than the next closest player in the national rankings. Shinyashiki netted the first five hat tricks of his career in 2018, including a four-goal game in Denver's 4-3 victory over Omaha to begin the Summit League slate.

The Senior CLASS Award Finalist was a two-time United Soccer Coaches' National Player of the Week and a four-time recipient of College Soccer News National Team of the Week honors. Shinyashiki led a Denver senior class that entered the NCAA Tournament third in the country in wins (61-11-10) and second in the country in percentage of points earned at 78.5%.
