The University of Denver Pioneers (3-2, 1-0) fell, 5-2, to the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday in Iowa City, Iowa.
Pedro Fernandez Del Valle and Eric Morris earned the Pioneers’ lone victory on the doubles court, picking up a 6-3 win in the No. 3 slot.
Following doubles play, freshman Mattia Ros earned his second career win at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Josh Silverstein. Sophomore Fernandez Del Valle carried over this momentum from the doubles win with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles. Fernandez Del Valle moved to 5-0 in singles play this season.
The Pioneers are set to return to action against Summit League preseason favorite Drake on Feb. 18 at 9 a.m. MT.

The University of Denver is holding an alumni giving challenge for the 2017-2018 season in an effort to increase student-athlete alumni participation in the Denver Athletics Annual Fund. The sport with the highest percentage of alumni participation will receive an additional $10,000 of support through the generosity of an anonymous donor.
