STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. -- The University of Denver ski team dominated the men's and women's slalom on Friday night, chalking up 170 points and moving the Pioneers into first place at the NCAA Championships.
On a special night of NCAA slalom racing, the Crimson and Gold earned 91 points from the women and 73 points from the men.
DU sits 26 points ahead of Colorado (411) and 106.5 points above Dartmouth (330.5), going into the final day of competition on Saturday.
Earning a sweep of the NCAA women's Alpine titles was Amelia Smart, who totaled a time of 1:19.21 for first and 40 points in the slalom. The freshman from Vancouver, B.C. won the 2018 giant slalom crown on Wednesday.
It is the first time since Kristine Haugen in 2013 that a Pioneer skier has won both events in the same year.
Denver carded four other All-America honors, including Tobias Kogler who placed third in the men's slalom with a 1:21.47.
Back on the women's side, taking fourth was Andrea Komsic, who skied for 31 points thanks to a 1:20.70.
Completing the night for the men were Alex Leever and Jett Seymour. The Colorado natives earned All-American status as the duo placed eighth and ninth respectively, with times of 1:22.29 and 1:22.32.
Finishing just outside the top 10 was Tuva Norbye, who took 11th. The junior's 1:22.32 put her just behind Dartmouth's Alexa Diouhy.
The Nordic team will finish out the NCAA Championships tomorrow, when they compete in the 20k and 15k freestyle starting at 9:30 a.m. on Howelsen Hill.
DU fans in Steamboat Springs this weekend are invited to a tailgate party on Saturday morning. The tailgate will start at 8:30 a.m., snacks and hot chocolate will be provided. Just look for the Denver tents.
