Pioneers on the Quest for 24th National Championship

March 6, 2018

NCAA Championship Guide

DENVER - The University of Denver ski teams are set to battle at the 2018 NCAA Championships this week. The squads will ski in Steamboat Springs, Colo., as the University of Colorado, Boulder hosts the event.

After a heartbreaking finish last year, taking third, the program is back in the hunt for its 24th national title. The Pioneers last took the crown just two years ago in 2016.

The championships open on Wednesday, March 7 with Alpine events, while Nordic competition starts on Thursday.

Six of the 12 DU skiers are previous All-Americans: Dag Frode Trolleboe, Linn Eriksen, Taeler McCrerey, Andrea Komsic, Lars Hannah and Tuva Norbye are all previous honorees.

Three Pioneer skiers competing will also be freshmen, including Amelia Smart, Jett Seymour and Tobias Kogler.

Rounding out the skiers are Alex Leever, Eivind Kvaale and Jasmi Joensuu.

The Crimson and Gold have one previous individual national champion, Eriksen in the women's Classic in 2016.

Skiers to watch on the Alpine team include Komsic and Leever, who each carded three podium finishes in 2018.

For the Nordic squad, Trolleboe placed seven times on the podium this season, including three first-place finishes, most recently in the Classic at the RMISA Championships. Eriksen went for second place three times the season and took first once in New Mexico (Freestyle).

Live timing and video from the championships will be available for fans who cannot make the trip up to Steamboat.
