The University of Denver Pioneers (4-5, 2-1) defeated the Illinois State Redbirds, 7-0, on Sunday at Life Time Fitness.
Denver opened the match with the doubles point as Jorge Nunez and Wyatt Lovera combined to win 6-2 at No. 3 doubles, then Matt Summers and Jesse Ruder-Hook won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Nunez and Lovera played their first match together this season, while Summers and Ruder-Hook improved their season record to 6-1.
Eric Morris earned the first singles win of the day with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3. Ruder-Hook followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4. Denver clinched the match with Pedro Fernandez Del Valle’s 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles. At No. 2 singles, Matt Summers battled through a tiebreaker in the first set to win 7-6 (7-5), then followed up with a decisive 6-1 win in the second set. Ignatius Castelino won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles and Mattia Ros won 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 at No. 1.
The Pioneers are set to return to the court against Utah State on March 5 at 11 a.m.

The University of Denver is holding an alumni giving challenge for the 2017-2018 season in an effort to increase student-athlete alumni participation in the Denver Athletics Annual Fund. The sport with the highest percentage of alumni participation will receive an additional $10,000 of support through the generosity of an anonymous donor.
