Denver Tops Boise State, 4-1

The Denver Pioneers (9-8, 3-1) moved above the .500 mark with a 4-1 win against Boise State on the outdoor courts at Colorado Athletic Club - Monaco on Thursday.

Denver opened the match with the doubles point as Jesse Ruder-Hook and Matt Summers earned a 6-2 win at No. 1 and Eric Morris and Pedro Fernandez Del Valle earned a 6-3 win at No. 2.

After dropping the first singles match of the day, the Pioneers responded with Matt Summers’ 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2, Pedro Fernandez Del Valle’s 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4 and Jesse Ruder-Hook’s match-clinching 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 3.  The Pioneers have three road matches remaining before hosting the Summit League Championship on April 27-28.

“We have a good stretch of matches and a conference tournament at the end of the year,” Denver coach Ricardo Rubio said. “We have to keep peaking and playing better.”

Senior co-captains Wyatt Lovera and Ruder-Hook were honored before the game.

The Pioneers are slated to play Nebraska Omaha on Saturday, April 14 at 11 a.m. MT in Omaha, Neb.
