April 25, 2018 NCAA RELEASE
DENVER - The University of Denver women's golf team found out on Wednesday that its season will go on, making the NCAA Regional in Tallahassee, Fla. The Pioneers received the No. 13 seed as an at-large bid that was revealed on the NCAA Selection Show, which aired on the Golf Channel.
DU's at-large bid makes them one of very few non-Power 5 schools to receive an at-large bid.
The Tallahassee regional will be played at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Club. Florida State will serve as the host institution.
"I am so extremely proud of this team and especially our seniors for leading this team to its 17th straight regional appearance," head coach Lindsay Kuhle said. "We've had a remarkable season and have gained some incredible experiences that hope to carry us into regionals with a lot of confidence. Our strength of schedule before conference was 28th in the country which proves we've competed against the best and had some great head-to-head wins.
"When we're confident and competing to the best of our ability, we're a team that can advance to the National Championship and do some special things. I believe in this team and know how much they want it, and when given this opportunity at regionals, I am confident that our players will show up hungry ready to compete and play some great rounds of golf."
Alabama received the No. 1 seed for the regional, followed by Furman, Arizona and Washington.
Also joining the Crimson and Gold are Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Florida State, Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee, UNLV, Kennesaw State, Coastal Carolina, Missouri, College of Charleston, Richmond and Albany.
Denver currently ranks 51st in the most recent rankings according to Golfstat. The Pioneers had a remarkable fall season earlier this year, winning back-to-back team titles at the Golfweek Conference Challenge and the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate, played at their home course in Highlands Ranch, Colo.
The Pioneers will be powered by junior Sophie Newlove and sophomore Mary Weinstein. Newlove is coming off an impressive performance at the Summit League Championship, taking home individual medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 1-over 217, which tied the Summit League Championship record.
Weinstein has been a force in her debut season with DU. The sophomore was named first-team All-Summit League this past weekend, and finished tied for fourth at the league championship. Weinstein ranks second on the team in scoring average at 73.89 and has two top-five finishes this year.
Play for the NCAA Regional is set to begin on May 7.
