DENVER – Junior Hannah Adler (Oak Park, Calif.) netted an equalizer in the 66th minute to earn the University of Denver women's soccer team a 1-1 draw in the season opener on Thursday night at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.
After a scoreless first half that saw Colorado State control most of the opening half hour, and Denver hold the majority of the play in the last 15 minutes of the first half, the two teams went into the locker room with DU holding a 7-5 lead in shots and taking all five corners of the opening 45 minutes.
Colorado State got on the board first in the 58th minute as Hannah Gerdin played a cross to the edge of the six-yard box to the run of teammate Caeley Lordemann. With her only option to slide in to break up the pass, junior Cheyenne Shorts (Denver, Colo.) had the Lordemann cross deflect off the edge of her boot and into the back of the net.
Adler equalized just shy of eight minutes later as a corner kick from sophomore Meg Halvorson (Englewood, Colo.) met Adler's run to the back post and the Denver junior buried the 14th goal of her career.
Colorado State produced the best chance of the extra session, but a shot from Gerdin sailed wide of the net.
Junior Brittany Wilson (Littleton, Colo.) made five saves in her season debut.
The Crimson and Gold outshot the Rams 17-15 in the 110 minutes and took eight of the match's12 corners.
