DENVER – Freshman Camryn MacMillan (Littleton, Colo.) scored the third goal of her rookie season, but the University of Denver women's soccer team couldn't complete the comeback and fell to Colorado 2-1 in the 33rd Colorado Derby on Sunday afternoon at Prentup Field.
Colorado's Marty Puketapu opened the scoring in the 28th minute on a header off a cross from Emily Groark to put the Buffs in-front ahead of the half hour mark.
Chaynee Kingsbury doubled the home side's advantage in the 40th minute as a 30-yard ball back into the mixer off a recycled set-piece went off the tip of the out-stretched arms of Brittany Wilson (Littleton, Colo.) and into the back of the net.
MacMillan pulled Denver back to within a goal in the 67th minute, netting a rebound off a shot from senior forward Leah Swander (Grand Junction, Colo.) for her third goal in Denver's last five matches.
Wilson finished with six saves on the afternoon in a match that snapped the Pioneers four-match unbeaten run.
