DENVER – Senior striker
Andre Shinyashiki (Sao Paulo, Brazil) has been named the College Soccer News National Player of the Week for the second time in four weeks of the 2018 regular season, following his five-goal weekend at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium, CSN announced on Monday.
Shinyashiki was involved in all six goals in Denver's perfect 2-0-0 week, scoring the first and the third on Friday night against Harvard, sandwiched around chipping the Crimson back four to setup
Brooks Crawford's first career goal.
Less than 48 hours after becoming the first Pioneer to reach double figures in the goal column since Zach Bolden in 2013, Shinyashiki netted his third hat trick of both his career and of the first seven matches of the 2018 season on Sunday, scoring three times 21:23 apart to propel Denver to a 3-0 victory over No. 22 San Francisco.
Shinyashiki, who broke Denver's Division I career goals and points records earlier this season, has 13 goals in seven matches in 2018, good for the second most in a single-season in Denver's DI history, while his 28 points sits third in Denver's single-season record book.
Denver moved up a spot in the College Soccer News Poll to No. 5 this week, passing Michigan State. The Pioneers stayed put at No. 4 in this week's Top Drawer Soccer Top 25.
