DENVER— The University of Denver women's lacrosse team welcomes Mackenzie (Kenzie) Wallevand to the roster for the 2019 season. Wallevand comes to DU as a midfielder after playing one year at Fresno State.
"We are excited to add Mackenzie to our roster," said head coach
Liza Kelly. "She is a powerful player who will add depth to our midfield. I am excited to see her evolution this fall!"
Wallevand started in all 18 games as a freshman for the Bulldogs. By the end of the 2018 season, she had tallied 19 goals, 10 assists, 29 points and 47 shots. Wallevand also grabbed 51 draw controls, 15 ground balls, and caused 26 turnovers, earning her career high of seven draw controls on March 26 against Presbyterian College. The 5-foot-8 sophomore was named the 2018 MPSF Rookie of the Year and named to the 2018 All-MPSF Team.
Wallevand hails from Orange, California, where she lived with her mom, dad, and two brothers. She attended Mater Dei High School where she was the team captain, first team all-county, and an All-American. Coming to Denver, Wallevand plans to major in Criminology and one day she would like to become a crime analyst.
"I chose University of Denver because of how amazing the location is and the surrounding area, the strong academics that the school provides and the lacrosse program is one of the best in the nation," said Wallevand. "I love knowing that the team is more like a family than anything else."
