DENVER— The University of Denver women's volleyball team will hit the road for its first league match of the season, facing Oral Roberts on Friday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. MT.
Denver is 14-5 overall in conference openers in the past 19 season and 5-0 in Summit League openers. In 2017 DU went 12-2 in league play, falling to North Dakota State (1-3) on Sept. 29 and Oral Roberts (0-3) on Oct. 7.
DU holds an 11-1 record heading to Tulsa, Okla., the best non-league record since Denver joined the Summit League in 2013. The Pioneers are hitting .280 percent, ranking first in the conference and 16th in the NCAA. Senior
Becca Latham leads the team in kills (147),
Ellie Anderson leads in assists (28),
Olivia Novotny leads in digs (130), and
Emma Willis leads in blocks (49).
Sophomore
Lydia Bartalo tops the DU leader board with 28 service aces the season, ranking 6th in the NCAA.
The Eagles hold a 3-9 mark for the 2018 season, most recently having lost to SIUE in five sets during the Cougar Classic in Edwardsville, Ill. ORU is averaging 11.61 kills per set, 10.94 assists, 1.94 blocks. 0.71 aces, 16.45 digs and a .149 hitting percentage. Senior Lara Picht leads the team with 115 kills (2.45 k/s), but is only hitting .127, and Bria Bergman has tallied 433 assists (8.84 a/s) for the Eagles.Â
Oral Roberts ranks third in the league with 806 digs this season, but struggles offensively and ranks first in attack errors.
The Pioneers will return home to Hamilton Gymnasium on Sunday, Sept. 23 to compete against South Dakota State at 2 p.m. Sunday's match will serve as Camp Reunion Day in Hamilton Gym.Â
