NEDERLAND, Colo. – The University of Denver ski team continued competition at the University of Colorado Invite on Friday. Both the men and women were scheduled to compete in the Slalom Race but only the women completed the race due to poor snow conditions.
Despite the men not racing, it was a great day for DU as
Tuva Norbye and
Amelia Smart finished second and third, respectively, to claim a spot on the podium.
Andrea Komsic,
Katie Hensien and
Storm Klomhaus also raced for Denver.
Four of the five Denver skiers finished their races and all four finished inside the top 10, giving the Pioneers an additional 102 team points to remain in first place. DU (271 total points) sits ahead of Utah (241 total points) and Montana State (186 total points) after two days of skiing.
WOMEN'S SLALOM: Norbye continued her strong start to the season with a second place finish after taking first in yesterday's Giant Slalom race.Â
Smart, the defending individual national champion in both alpine events, recorded the fastest run of the day en route to a third place finish and her first podium appearance of the season.
Komsic, who failed to finish her first Giant Slalom race yesterday, bounced back with a fourth place finish that was just .06 seconds behind third-place finisher and teammate
Amelia Smart.
Hensien, a freshman, took seventh in the first sanctioned team event of her career.
Klomhaus finished her first run but was unable to finish her second.
Next up: The Nordic teams are competing in Steamboat Springs on Saturday and Sunday. The men's Slalom Race, originally scheduled for today, has been rescheduled for next weekend
