DENVER – University of Denver gymnastics sophomore Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) was named the Big 12 Conference Gymnast of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
 
Brown was instrumental in DU's upset win over then-ranked No. 6 Michigan and No. 18 Alabama in the team's season opener in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Friday. Denver captured its first-ever victory over Alabama and its first win over Michigan since 2007 with a team total of 196.275.
 
The Denver sophomore finished second overall in the all-around with a 39.400. Her 9.925 on vault earned her a second-place finish on the event and was one of only five scores of 9.900 or higher in the entire meet. It also tied her career high.
 
This is Brown's first career Gymnast of the Week honor and third overall conference award after capturing Newcomer of the Weel twice in 2018. She was voted the Big 12 co-Newcomer of the Year as well.
 
The University of Denver gymnastics team, presented by Your Hometown Toyota Stores, will host its home opener on Saturday, January 19, against No. 22 Central Michigan, Texas Woman's and Sacramento State at 6 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium. Season tickets start at just $35, and single meet tickets are also on sale. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the Ritchie Center Box Office at 303-871-4625.
