Joensuu Finishes 26th at World Junior Championships

FINLAND – University of Denver skier Jasmi Joensuu raced at the World Junior Championships for her native Finland on Monday. The senior from Kourtane had the 14th fastest qualifying time and finished 26th in the final after breaking her pole basket during the quarterfinal heat.
"I felt awesome in the qualifier and my heat as well," said Joensuu. "My pole basket broke off in the first curve during my quarterfinal and I did my best, but the pole went through the snow without a basket. But I'm happy with my shape now!"
She will return to Denver to help Nordic head coach Dave Stewart's squad chase down its second straight national title.
"Jasmi had an excellent result at World Championships today," said Stewart. "I know the U23 women's field is particularly strong in sprint, so for her place 14th in the qualifier shows the speed we know she has. I'm sure it was a blast for Jasmi to race in Finland front of a home crowd."

RIDE THE SKI TRAIN: Join the defending National Champion Denver Ski Team for a day on the mountain on January 26th. The train leaves Union Station at 6:45 am and will arrive at Winter Park Resort at 9 am where the National Champion DU Ski Team will be your expert guides on the mountain offering choices of freeskiing, snowcat tours or snowshoeing. The train will return to Union Station at 6:40 pm on the evening of the 26th.
