DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team improved to 3-0 in its first week of action at the Denver Tennis Park and 3-1 overall with a 5-2 victory over Weber State on Saturday evening.
The Pioneers clinched the doubles point in just 26 minutes thanks to wins on the second and third courts.
Daniel Krulig and
Eric Morris won on the third court 6-1 before
Mattia Ros and
Pedro Fernandez Del Valle led their opponents 5-0 before winning the match 6-1 on the second court.
Matt Summers was the first to earn a singles point for the Pioneers, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 victory on the No. 2 court. Summers' victory is his third in four dual matches this season.
Ignatius Castelino got Denver's third point on the board at the No. 5 court with a straight set victory, surrendering seven games at 6-3, 6-4. Castelino is now 4-0 on the young dual season.
Fernandez Del Valle clinched the match for the Pioneers with a 6-2, 6-3 victory on the No. 3 court to improve to 3-1 on the campaign.
The other three singles matches needed a decisive third set. Ros was in a tight match on the No. 1 singles court thru two sets before he raced out to a 4-0 lead in the final set, ultimately taking it 6-3. Ros is now 3-1 on the year.
