DU Set To Take On North Dakota In Tuesday Afternoon Match

DENVER, COLO – After being postponed due to inclement weather earlier in the season, the University of Denver volleyball team will travel to Grand Forks, N.D. to take on North Dakota on Tuesday (12 PM MT).

The match will come just two days after the Pioneers swept Western Illinois in a Sunday afternoon match. The Pios had an impressive offensive showing against the Leathernecks, hitting .402 with 50 total kills. Junior, Lydia Bartalo led the offense with 12 kills while Amanda Green followed closely behind, recording 11 on the day.

Entering Tuesday, the Pioneers look to extend their three game win streak, holding a 13-6 overall record and 5-3 standing in Summit League action. Hitting .204 as a team, the Pio offense is led by Bartalo who averaged 3.01 kills per set through 19 matches. Junior middle blocker Tina Boe totaled six kills against WIU and ranks fifth in the Summit League with a .330 hitting percentage. Ellie Anderson continues to serve up the offense, leading the team in assists with 333 while freshmen Brianna Green remains at the top of the Summit League rankings with an average of 1.40 blocks per set.

Scouting the Hawks: North Dakota enters the weekend with a 10-11 overall record and a 2-5 conference standing. UND will look to carry momentum into Tuesday's match following a 3-2 victory over Oral Roberts on Friday. As a team, the Hawks average 11.3 kills per set and 2.1 blocks per set. Freshman setter, Peyton Sewell leads the offense with an average of 5.65 assists per set, ranking fifth in the Summit League. Putting those sets to good use is senior outside hitter, Ashley Brueggeman who has a team high 256 kills through 18 matches. Defensively, North Dakota is led by 6'2 junior, Lydia Rutten who has totaled 74 blocks this season.  

Last Meeting: This will be just the second matchup between the two squads in program history. The one meeting coming last season on October 7th, 2018. DU saw a .225-.114 attack percentage advantage through the four-set match. The Pios took the match three sets to one before the second meeting pf 2018 between the two teams was canceled due to weather.
