Pios Continue Summit League Action With Weekend Homestand

DENVER, COLO- The University of Denver volleyball team looks to extend its four-game win streak as they host Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday (7 PM MT) and Oral Roberts on Sunday (2 PM MT) in Hamilton Gymnasium this weekend.

The Pioneers enter the weekend following a Tuesday victory over North Dakota (25-22, 25-18, 25-22). Denver hit .248 totaling 44 kills through the three sets, led by kill leader Lydia Bartalo who notched ten kills in the match. Bartalo averages 3.03 kills to go along with four double-doubles this season. Bartalo was named Offensive Player of the Week following her week eight performance, featuring a career high game against Omaha recording 21 kills in Denver's victory. Following closely behind is senior outside hitter, Amanda Green who averages 2.39 kills per set and has recorded three double-digit kill performances in the Pios past four matches. Anderson continues to move the ball around for the Pio offense, leading the team in assists averaging 4.97 per set. Brianna Green remains at the top of the Summit League averaging 1.43 blocks per set while the Pioneers rank fourth in the Summit League in total blocks with 158.

Scouting PFW: The 'Dons enter Friday's match being one of two Summit League teams to down the Pios during the 2019 season so far. They hold a second place standing in the Summit League standing behind a 13-10 overall record and 7-2 conference mark. Offensively they are led by junior outside hitter Katie Crowe who averages 3.24 kills per set and ranks second in the Summit League with 310 kills. Crowe is three games removed from a career night against South Dakota State where she slammed a career high of 28 kills. Defensively freshman, Rachael Crucis leads the Summit League in digs with 423 and an average of 4.75 digs per set. As a team Purdue Fort Wayne enters the weekend averaging 12.27 kills per set and 2.04 blocks per set. PFW has won its last five matches that have gone to five sets.

Last Meeting: Purdue Fort Wayne handed the Pioneers their first Summit League loss of the season (25-18, 25-20, 15-25, 25-19) on September 27th. The Golden Eagles recorded a .229 attack percentage totaling 57 kills compared to the Pioneers 43. Bartalo led the Denver offense with 11 kills in the match.  

DENVER vs. ORAL ROBERTS

Scouting ORU: ORU holds a 6-16 overall record and a 206 standing in the Summit League. The Golden Eagles will enter their matchup with the Pioneers on Sunday following a Friday night match against the number one ranked team in the Summit League, South Dakota and will look to snap their four game losing skid. ORU is led by senior outside hitter CeCe Madison who averages 4.02 kills per set. Redshirt sophomore Sarah Thiessen leads the Golden Eagles defensively with an average of 4.12 digs per set.  As a team ORU has a season attack percentage of .191.

Last Meeting: The last meeting between the two teams was earlier this season on September 29th in Tulsa. The Pioneers ran away with the set sweep (25-14, 26-24, 25-23) out-hitting the Golden Eagles .317-.198. Tina Boe and Kalea Fobert led the Pios offensively through three sets recording ten kills each.
