DENVER- The University of Denver volleyball team earned five all-conference nods following the conclusion of regular season Summit League action, the conference announced Thursday.
All-league selection
Lydia Bartalo was named Player of the Year, while
Tina Boe was also named to the all-league team and junior
Ellie Anderson was tabbed an honorable mention. Freshmen teammatesÂ
Kalea Fobert and
Brianna Green were named to the all-freshmen team.
Bartalo is the first Pioneer to win Summit League Player of the Year since Denver joined the Summit League in 2013. She becomes a two-time all-league selection after leading the Pioneers in kills, tallying 323 on the year, while also averaging a team-best 3.20 kills per set, ranking eighth in the Summit League. The Colorado Springs native leads the conference in service aces with an average of 0.42 per set, recording a total of 56 aces through 101 sets. Bartalo added a .239 attack percentage with a season-high attack performance of .611 against Western Illinois on Oct. 20 while also notching a career-high number of kills in Denver's victory against Omaha on Oct. 15, totaling 21 kills through five sets.
Defensively, the outside hitter ranks second on the team in digs (237). She enters this weekend's Summit League tournament with seven double-doubles during her 2019 campaign, six of those coming in Summit League action.
This marks Boe's first all-league honor of her career. The 2018 Summit League Honorable mention selection ranks second in the Summit League and first on the team with a season attack percentage of .362. The middle blocker has recorded 187 kills, 63 digs and 91 blocks on the year. The Minnesota native ranks ninth in the Summit League in blocks per set (0.90).
As one of the league's top setters, Anderson receives her second consecutive honorable mention. The junior ranks seventh in the league in assists per set (5.21) and leads the Pioneer offense with 521 total assists. The Iowa native's 222 digs rank third on the team, leading her to a team-best 10 double-doubles on the season.
Fobert, a freshman from Parker, Colo., ranks fourth on the team in kills (168) with an average of 2.10 per set. The outside hitter also chipped in 33 digs, 46 blocks and a .208 attack percentage during her freshman campaign. Fobert locked in a career-high 11 kills against South Dakota on Oct. 6 while adding a six-block performance in the Pios final Summit League win over Western Illinois on Nov. 17.
Coming to Denver from Cedar Hill, Texas, Green locked in the Pioneers' second all-freshman nod of 2019. The middle blocker holds the Summit League's third spot in blocks per set, averaging 1.22. The middle blocker leads DU in total blocks, tallying 111 through 28 matches to go along with 92 kills, seven assists and nine kills through 28 matches.Â
