Snap Shots: Week 6

Riding an eight-game winning streak, the No. 1 Denver Pioneers men's hockey team (8-0-0, NCHC 0-0-0-0) is set to open conference play on the road against No. 7 Minnesota Duluth this weekend. Denver swept Niagara last weekend, retaining its spot atop the weekly polls and drawing within one win of tying their best start in program history.

Pioneers in the Polls
-Denver ranked 1st in the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls for the fourth consecutive week. The Pioneers received 49 first-place votes in the USCHO.com poll and all 34 first-place votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll
 
Record Start
-Denver is 8-0-0 to start the season for only the second time in program history. The Pioneers' best start in program history was a 9-0-0 stretch to start the 2001-02 season
 
Denver: Snapshot
-The Pioneers are 33/34 (97.1%) on the penalty kill, 1st in the NCAA among teams with more than two games played. Denver has scored three shorthanded goals, 1st in the NCAA
-Ian Mitchell leads the Pioneers with 10 points (3-7-10) and ranks 2nd among NCAA defensemen. He has points in seven of eight games this season
-Magnus Chrona is 7-0-0 with a .925 SV%, 2nd among NCAA freshmen, a 1.86 GAA, 1st among NCAA freshmen and two shutouts, 1st among NCAA freshmen
-Denver leads the NCAA with a +20 goal margin, outscoring opponents 15-0 in the second period and 13-5 in the third period
 
Denver vs. Minnesota Duluth
-The Pioneers went 2-3-0 against the Bulldogs last season
-Denver is 126-80-12 all-time against the Bulldogs and 17-6-2 in the last seven years with 15 of those games being decided by one or fewer goals and an additional four being decided by two goals with an empty-netter
 
NCHC Goalie of the Week
-Michael Corson was named Bauer NCHC Goalie of the Week on Nov. 4 after recording a 16-save shutout in his first career start on Saturday, Nov. 2 vs. Niagara. He was named First Star of the Game in Denver's 4-0 win 
 
70th Anniversary Season
-More than 170 alumni representing more than 60 years of Denver Hockey attended 70th Anniversary Weekend on Nov. 1-2 vs. Niagara
-Denver debuted its 70th Anniversary Season alternate jerseys on Nov. 2. The jerseys, modeled after the original 1949 jersey, will be worn on a rotation throughout the season
-The Pioneers are playing in their 70th Anniversary Season. Since its inaugural season in 1949, Denver has made 30 appearances in the NCAA tournament, 17 appearances in the Frozen Four and won eight National Championships, tied for the second-most titles among any college hockey program
 
Non-Conference Streak
-The Pioneers are undefeated in 19 straight non-conference games with a 17-0-2 mark in that stretch
-Denver is 22-2-4 against non-conference opponents since the 2017-18 season
-The Pioneers have two non-conference series remaining this season: at Arizona State (Nov. 6-7), vs. UMass Amherst (Jan. 3-4)
 
Hot Streaks
-Tyson McLellan is on a four-game point streak with four goals and one assist
-Ian Mitchell has scored a point in seven of eight games with three goals and seven assists
-Emilio Pettersen has scored a point in six of eight games with one goal and six assists
 
UP NEXT: Denver men's hockey presented by Centura Health will begin conference play on the road against Minnesota Duluth on Nov. 8-9.
