Denver Hits the Road to Take on Lamar

SCOUTING LAMAR
•    Aqua Franklin enters her first season with the Cardinals after spending the last four years at Kansas as an associate head coach.
•    The Cards went to 3-5 on the season after rolling past Letourneau 90-38 on Dec. 2. 
•    Franklin's squad currently sits seventh in the Southland standings.
•    Junior Jadyn Pimentel and redshirt senior Amber Vidal are leading the scoring at 11.0 points per game, while senior Briana Laidler is averaging a team-high 7.1 rebounds.

COMMON FOE
•    Denver and Lamar have both faced Cal Poly this season.
•    The Pioneers cruised to a 96-66 victory on Nov. 17, while the Cardinals fell 57-56 on Nov. 30.

HISTORIC PERFORMANCES
•    Nelson was unstoppable against Northern Colorado as she recorded 13 points, 15 rebounds, and career-highs with 8 blocks and 6 steals.
•    The senior forward is the first player in the program's Division I era (1999-pres.) to post that stat line.
•    Nelson's 24-point, 21-rebound outing against UC Irvine (Nov. 29) is only the second 20-20 performance in school history.
•   The former Dover-Eyota High School standout recorded the first 20-20 game in program history on Nov. 23, 2018 against Lamar with 23 points and 20 boards.

DOUBLE THE FUN
•    Nelson recorded her seventh straight double-double of the season against Northern Colorado with 13 points and 15 rebounds.
•    The senior forward leads the Summit league and currently ranked third in the nation in double-doubles with seven this season.
•    The Dover, Minnesota native has 19 double-doubles in her career.
•    Nelson is averaging a double-double through eight games with averages of 19.3 points and 13.1 rebounds
•    Freshman Uju Ezeudu recorded her second double-double of her career against Colorado Christian with 19 points and a game-high 13 boards.

NELSON NATIONALLY BY THE NUMBERS
•    Nelson's 13.1 rebounding average leads Division I and her 105 rebounds are second.
•    The Preseason Summit League First-Team selection has made 49 free throws for the 10th highest on 56 attempts, the 20th most in all of Division I.
•    Through eight games, Nelson is averaging 19.3 points per game, good for 32nd in the nation.

NELSON IN THE SUMMIT LEAGUE
•    Nelson has been dominant in 2019-20, leading the Summit League with 19.3 points per game and a 13.1 rebounding average.
•    In eight contests, Nelson has converted 49 of her 56 attempts at the line for a free throw percentage of 87.5, all second highest numbers in the entire league.
•    On the defensive end, Nelson has been a force blocking the fourth highest amount of shots per game with 2.0 while also averaging the second most steals at 2.5.

AMONG THE BEST IN THE NATION
•    Lauren Loven's 23 made 3s are ranked 37th in all of Division I, while her 2.88 3s per game average is 41st.
•    The Scottsdale, Arizona native's 272 career three-pointers made is sixth among active players in the country.
•    The senior guard is 14th among active NCAA players with a 2.72 3s made per game average for her career.
•    Junior Claire Gritt's 4.17 assist-to-turnover ratio is currently ranked third in the country.
•    Denver has shown its ability to get to the free throw line this year, leading the entire NCAA with 159 free throws made on 202 attempts -- the 11th highest in the country. Its free throw percentage of 78.7 is 17th best.
•    The Crimson and Gold are 16th in the nation with 81.3 points per game, while averaging the 15th highest mark for rebounds with 45.25.

ATOP THE LEAGUE
•    DU leads the Summit League with 81.3 points per game, 78.7 free throw percentage, and 159 free throws made.
•    Turgeon's squad is second in three-point field goal percentage (34.7), blocks per game (4.3), turnover margin (2.25), free throw attempts (202), and rebounds per game (45.25).
•    Denver comes in at number three in scoring margin (+12.6), rebound margin (+8.9), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.02), turnovers forced (17.75), and assists per game with 15.8.

INDIVIDUALS REACHING FOR THE SUMMIT
•    Loven sits atop the league with 68 3s attempted.
•    The Preseason Summit League First-Team selection has made 23 3s and 2.88 per game, the second highest numbers and her 33.8 three-point percentage is sixth.
•    Ezeudu is shooting 83.9 from the charity stripe, fourth best in the league.
•    The Reynoldsburg, Ohio native has grabbed 7.6 boards per contest to go along with a 2.0 steals average for the sixth-best marks in the entire league.
•    Redshirt junior Briana Johnson is averaging 3.8 assists for the third highest average in the Summit League.
•    The former Serra High School standout has assisted on 30 baskets in 2019-20 -- the fourth best mark.
•    Gritt leads the league with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 4.17.
•    The Arlington Heights, Illinois native is dishing out 3.6 assists per game, the fourth best in the Summit League.
