DENVER – The University of Denver women's gymnastics team moved up to No. 6 in the Road to Nationals rankings, released on Monday, which matches the highest that the program has ever been ranked nationally.
DU previously achieved a No. 6 ranking during Week 1 of the 2003 and 2010 seasons. This week's ranking is the latest in the season (Week 6) that the program has hit the milestone.
The Pioneers are coming off of back-to-back meets with scores above the 197 mark after DU notched the fourth-highest score in school history (197.400) on Sunday in front of the program's largest-ever crowd. DU's season average score is now 196.730.
For the first time this season, Denver is also ranked inside the top 10 on all four events. The bars squad moved up to No. 4 with a 49.355 average, which matches the program's highest-ever ranking set earlier this year. DU also improved its floor ranking, moving up to No. 6 (49.230). The team is ranked No. 9 on both vault (49.125) and beam (49.020).
Sophomore
Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) is ranked inside the top 10 in the all-around for the first time this season, sitting at No. 9. She increased her season average to 39.445 after a career-best 39.625 on Sunday, which tied the tenth-highest score in DU history.
Brown's perfect 10.0 on floor moved her into a tie for No. 12 (9.900) on the event this week. She also holds the No. 21 ranking on vault (9.860).
Junior
Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) is once again inside the top 10 on two events. She owns the No. 4 spot on bars (9.930) and is ranked No. 8 on vault (9.880).
Freshman
Alexis Vasquez (Arcadia, Calif.) moved into the top 10 on beam for the first time in her career, tying for No. 9 (9.895).
The Road to Nationals rankings are released every Monday throughout the season and are determined by average score for the first half of the season. Beginning in next week, rankings will be calculated by Regional Qualifying Score (RQS).
The University of Denver gymnastics team, presented by Your Hometown Toyota Stores, continues its three-meet home stand on Saturday, February 16, against Illinois State in a competition that is already sold out.
Single meet tickets are still available for Denver's final two home meets on February 24 and March 10, beginning at $9. Tickets can be
purchased online or by calling the Ritchie Center Box Office at 303-871-4625.
