DENVER – The University of Denver women's basketball team returns home on Wednesday to host the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons at 7 pm MT.
The Pios, who sit at 13-11 overall and 6-5 in the league snapped a three-game losing streak with an 87-67 victory over North Dakota State on Saturday. The win secured the regular-season sweep for DU over the Bison as
Samantha Romanowski led the squad with 17 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds and two steals. The Pioneers who are 13
th in the nation in total scoring, eclipsed the 80-point mark for the 12
th time this season. Head coach
Jim Turgeon's team also ranks fifth in 3-point percentage (40.3 percent), sixth in total blocks (137 total), eighth in blocks per game (5.7 per game) and 10
th in 3s per game (9.6 per game). Denver who has been nearly unbeatable at home will try and win back-to-back games for the first time since its last home stand in January and avenge a 15-point loss at Purdue Fort Wayne.
Purdue Fort Wayne is just 6-17 and 2-9 in the Summit League in head coach Niecee Nelson's third season at the helm. Despite the struggles, the Mastodons defeated Denver 70-55 earlier this season but they have since dropped three-straight. In the win, Purdue Fort Wayne held Denver to just 17-of-65 (26.2 percent) from the floor and 2-of-15 (13.3 percent) from downtown. Senior De'Jour Young leads the team in scoring with a 12.7 average while Kierstyn Repp (9.5 points per game) and Jalencia Williams (9.3 points per game) provide solid contribution. As a team Purdue Fort Wayne averages just 62 points per game while allowing opponents to score just under 70 per game but the 'Dons do hold the opposition to 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Denver holds a 9-3 all-time advantage over Purdue Fort Wayne and the Pioneers have won five-straight matchups since the 2017 season.
