No. 7 Denver Blanks No. 4 Minnesota Duluth, 1-0

Duluth, Minn. – Devin Cooley made 27 saves and Slava Demin scored the lone goal for the No. 7 Denver Pioneers (16-7-4, 8-7-2-2) as they shutout the No. 4 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (18-8-2, 11-6-1-0) 1-0 on Saturday in AMSOIL Arena.

The victory handed the Pioneers a weekend split and sole possession of fourth place in the NCHC standings.

"I'm really proud of our guys' effort and their resilience to be able to stick together and gut out a tough road win," Richard and Kitzia Goodman Head Coach said. "It hasn't been easy as of late. We've been in a lot of wars and a lot of low scoring games. We haven't had success on the road and to be able to come into this building is a feather in our cap."

The Pioneers opened the scoring for the second straight game as Emilio Pettersen worked the puck to Demin at the point for a shot through traffic to make it 1-0 at 8:04 of the first period. Demin's fourth goal of the season came on Denver's second shot of the night and halted the Bulldogs' early burst of momentum.

Denver's one-goal lead held through the second intermission as the Pioneers limited Minnesota Duluth to only four shots in the frame and benefited from two penalty kills and a few key stops by Devin Cooley, making his first start in 10 games.

Minnesota Duluth outshot Denver 13-2 in the third period, but Cooley held strong in his third shutout of the season as the Pioneers won their second road conference game of the season.

The Pioneers went 0/1 on the power play and 2/2 on the penalty kill.
