GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of Denver women's basketball team wraps up the road portion of its regular season schedule with a matchup against North Dakota on Saturday morning at 10 am MT.
The Pios are coming off of a 73-58 loss at South Dakota and sit at 14-12 overall and 7-6 in the Summit League. Currently in fifth place, DU will look to pick up just its fourth road-win of the season and complete the season sweep of North Dakota.
Despite failing to reach 60 points on Thursday, the Pioneers still average a league-best 80.2 points per game while averaging 9.5 3s per game. Individually, Denver boasts the league's top rebounder in
Madison Nelson (8.8 per game) and one of the nation's best 3-point shooters in
Lauren Loven. Loven has 93 made 3s on the season, which is just seven-shy of a new single-season Summit League record. The junior also shoots 46.3 percent from downtown and averages 14.7 points per game which is eighth-best in the league.
DU also featuresÂ
Samantha Romanowski who leads the team and league in assists per game with a 6.1 average. The senior also ranks second in the league in minutes per game, playing 34.3 minutes per game.
North Dakota is 5-8 in its first year in the Summit League and 10-16 overall. The Fighting Hawks will look to split the season series with DU after falling 87-66 in the Mile High City. UND sits just behind Denver in sixth place with three regular season games remaining before the Summit League tournament begins on March 9.
Senior Lexi Klabo leads the Summit League and North Dakota in points with an 18.5 average and she is the lone member of head coach Travis Brewster's squad to average double-figures. Klabo shoots 45.6 percent from the floor and also averages 8.3 rebounds which is second best in the league.
Jill Morton (9.7 points per game), Julia Fleecs (8.3 points per game) and Melissa Dailey (6.2 points per game) provide additional support for Brewster's team which holds conference wins over Purdue Fort Wayne, Oral Roberts, Omaha (2x) and North Dakota State.
