Denver Women Set Summit League Points Record; DU Sweeps Summit Titles

Pioneers complete a sweep of their sixth-straight Summit League titles
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving programs claimed their sixth-consecutive Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday night at the Midco Aquatic Center. Denver's women set the Summit League Swimming and Diving Championship records for points in a single championship with 1183, breaking the previous women's mark held by Oakland with its 1093 points in the 2001 campaign. The Pioneer men hold the men's record, earning 1099 points at the 2015 championship.

Cameron Auchinachie (Binghamton, N.Y.) highlighted the Pioneers evening with a Summit League Championship record 42.65 in the men's 100 free, earning NCAA B Standards in both the prelims and the finals. Earlier this week, Auchinachie set the 50 free Summit League Championship record in the prelims and then broke it again in the finals.
Alex Morgan led off the finals (Dyer, Ind.) with a fifth place finish in the 3-meter dive, receiving a 258.10.
In the first swimming event of the night, Kylie Cronin (Marblehead, Mass.) was the lone Pioneer in the finals of the 100 IM, taking the event with a 57.06. On the men's side, Cy Jager (Moscow, Idaho) was the only Pioneer in the finals, taking the top spot with a 49.94. Cronin and Jager's victories are their second Summit League titles in the event.
In the final distance races of the championships, Denver swept the podium in the women's mile. Andi Johnston (Fort Collins, Colo.) earned her first win of the season in the event with a 16:52.31, Angie Lindsay (Beaverton, Ore.) took second with a 17:01.26 and Izzy Smith (Leawood, Kan.) reached the final wall in 17:21.46 to earn third.
Colin Gilbert (Kamloops, B.C.) took his second 1650 free victory home this season and his second Summit League title in the event with a 15:15.48. Jesse Haraden (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) grabbed second with a 15:32.98 and Gavin McGee (San Jose, Calif.) finished seventh after a 16:32.82.
Heidi Bradley (Victoria, B.C.) and Livi Schmid (Fairfax Station, Va.) took first and third in the 200 back with times of 1:58.87 and 2:02.54, respectively. Bradley's win was her third in the event and her seventh backstroke victory overall this season.
Neil Wachtler (Waco, Texas) also earned his third 200 back victory of the season, clocking in at 1:46.03. Finn Kennard-Campbell (Hamilton, New Zealand) took second with a 1:46.78 and Nathan Rock (Boulder, Colo.) finished sixth with a 1:51.80.
Denver's women swept the top-four spots in the final freestyle sprint of the championships. Aysia Leckie (Georgetown, Ontario) won her third 100 free of the season with a 50.07, Sarah Lingen (Maple Grove, Minn.) took second, reaching the final wall in 50.34, Lauren Moden (Parker, Colo.) completed the podium sweep with a 50.57 and Annelyse Tullier (Dallas, Texas) was right behind her with a 50.99.
Auchinachie's Summit League record-setting performance in the men's 100 free (42.65) was part of a group of five Pioneers that occupied the top six spots. Hugo Sykes (Weston, Conn.) earned second with a 43.98, Robin Kuebler (Centennial, Colo.) finished third after his 44.48, Jackson Gainer (San Jose, Calif.) took fourth with a 44.98 and Peter Webster (Odense, Denmark) finished sixth, clocking in at 45.13.
The Pioneer women swept the top six spots in the women's 200 breast. Charlotte Simon (Saint Remy, France) led the group of Pioneers with a 2:13.84, Ally Yancy (Cave Creek, Ariz.) took second with a 2:17.43, Brandi Vu (Longmont, Colo.) earned third after her 2:18.30, Emily Vandenberg (Ajax, Ontario) swam to fourth with a 2:19.91, Courtney Laird (Overland Park, Kan.) took fifth with a 2:21.58 and Taylor Stoll (Hartland, Wis.) rounded out the group of Pios with her 2:25.51. Simon's win was her second in the event this year.
Adriel Sanes (Rosharon, Texas) recorded his third 200 breast victory of the campaign, reaching the final wall in 1:58.34. Anthony Nosack (Beaverton, Ore.) took fifth with a 2:03.03 and Blayze Jessen (Denver, Colo.) took sixth with a 2:03.14.
In the 200 fly, the Denver women occupied the top four spots in the results. Josie Valette (Boulder, Colo.) earned her first win of the season in the event with a 1:58.21. Cronin was right behind her with a 1:59.42, McKayla Sanchez (Temecula, Calif.) rounded out the podium after her 2:01.76 and Uma Knaven (Chapel Hill, N.C.) finished fourth after her 2:06.60.
Denver's men also took the top four spots. Kyle Ewoldt's (Gilbert, Ariz.) third win of the season came after a 1:47.72, Graham Walker (Nairobi, Kenya) finished second with a 1:48.11, Trent Panzera (Gauteng, South Africa) clocked in at 1:49.91 to take third and David Mihalic (Ljubljana, Slovenia) finished fourth with a 1:50.18.
The meet finished with the 400 free relays on Saturday night. Denver's women's quartet of Leckie, Lingen, Moden and Valette clocked in at 3:21.51 to take first, while the men's group of Wachtler, Gilbert, Kuebler and Sykes also took the top spot with a 2:56.78.
