Pios to Take 12 Men/12 Women to CSCAA National Invitational Championship
3/11/2019 3:16:00 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving
Denver's 24-swimmer team will head to Cleveland March 14-16
CLEVELAND – The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving programs will take 12 swimmers each to Cleveland State University March 14-16, 2019, to compete in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches' Association of America National Invitational Championship. This meet will make the first of three-consecutive weekends of championship meets for the Pioneers after sweeping their sixth-straight Summit League titles in February.
"Having our best athletes get NCAA postseason experience is such a valuable thing for our athletes to go thru every opportunity we can get," head coach Brian Schrader said. "Having 24 athletes in the water getting ready for this event and NCAAs makes it a powerful group experience to help everyone to prepare to swim fast at a National level and on a second taper. Our athletes are motivated for the level of competition and the challenge, and we want to build on some of the event records and performances we had last year into higher team finishes."
The meet will consist of swimmers who met NCAA Championship time standards but did not receive an invitation to that national meet. Additionally, both individual event and relay swimmers could automatically qualify for the meet by virtue of winning the event at their conference championship or by attaining other time standards established for the meet.
