Game Preview: No. 6 Denver at Colorado College

DENVER - The No. 6 Denver Pioneers (17-8-2, 9-8-2-2) are set to travel for their makeup game against Colorado College on Tuesday at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo. Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m. MT.  
 
DENVER: SNAPSHOT
• The Pioneers are 2-2-1 in their last five games and 4-4-2 in their last 10 games
• Denver's top five scorers have accounted for 54% of the team's total goals and 49% of the team's total points this season, accounting for 11 of the Pioneers' 17 points last weekend (3 goals, 8 assists)
• The Pioneers have been limited to 2.00 goals per game in their last six games compared to their season average of 2.97 goals per game
• Since the start of the new year, Denver is 5/49 (10.2%) on the power play, T-57th in the NCAA, and 29/38 (76.3%) on the penalty kill, 44th in the NCAA. Prior to the new year, Denver went 16/75 (21.3%) on the power play, 16th in the NCAA, and 58/69 (84.1%) on the penalty kill, 17th in the NCAA. The Pioneers went 2/5 on the power play and 4/4 on the penalty kill last weekend
 
DENVER: LAST SERIES
Miami 3, DU 1 | DU 5, Miami 2 (Feb. 22-23, 2019 - Denver, Colo.)
• After falling on Friday, the Pioneers rebounded to secure their 10th home win of the season and earn a series split at Magness Arena
• Denver outshot Miami 90-38 over the weekend. Liam Finlay led the Pioneers with four assists, while Jarid Lukosevicius and Jack Doremus each scored twice
• The Pioneers went 2/5 on the power play and 4/4 on the penalty kill
 
DENVER: UP NEXT
Denver at Omaha (March 1-2, 2019)
• Denver will travel to Omaha for the first time since March 3-4, 2017
• The Pioneers are 29-9-2 all-time against the Mavericks and 2-0-0 this season
 
COLORADO COLLEGE: SNAPSHOT
• The Tigers snapped a four-game winless streak with an 8-2 win against Western Michigan last Saturday at the Broadmoor World Arena
• Trey Bradley leads Colorado College with 27 points (12-15-27). Four of the Tigers' top five scorers are members of their senior class, which is T-4th in NCAA scoring (42-69-111)
• Colorado College averages 3.23 goals per game, 11th in the NCAA. The Tigers  have scored 16 goals in their last three games and have scored four or more goals in a game 12 times this season, going 9-2-1 in those games
 
COLORADO COLLEGE: LAST SERIES
WMU 5, CC 4 (OT), CC 8, WMU 2 (Feb. 22-23, 2019 - Colorado Springs, Colo.)
• After falling in overtime on Friday, the Tigers rebounded with their second-highest goal total of the season on Saturday - scoring five goals in the third period
• Colorado College went 2/5 on the power play and 3/4 on the penalty kill
• Ben Copeland led the Tigers with five goals, while Westin Michaud and Chris Wilkie each had two goals and two assists
 
COLORADO COLLEGE: UP NEXT
Colorado College vs. North Dakota (March 1-2, 2019)
• The Tigers host the Fighting Hawks in their second-to-last series of the regular season. Colorado College lost two OT games to North Dakota on Jan. 11-12, 2018

DENVER VS. COLORADO COLLEGE
• The Pioneers tied the Tigers 4-4 on Jan. 19, 2019 at Magness Arena, winning in the NCHC shootout for the extra point in the conference standings. The game is officially recorded as a tie as it pertains to the Battle for the Gold Pan
• The Pioneers have won four-consecutive Gold Pans, matching the record set by Colorado College from 1999-2002. The Pioneers lead the all-time series in the Battle for the Gold Pan, 13-12, and is 178-118-20 all-time against Colorado College
 
NCAA LEADERS
Devin Cooley has a .930 SV%, 5th in the NCAA, and a 2.01 GAA, 10th in the NCAA
Jarid Lukosevicius is T-5th in the NCAA with five game-winning goals
 
EXTENDING THE STREAK
• Denver is three wins shy of its 18th consecutive 20-win season. The last time the Pioneers missed the 20-game threshold was 2001-02 when the team finished 19-15-4 under George Gwozdecky
 
HOT AT HOME
• Denver is 10-2-4 at home, one of only five teams in the NCAA with two or fewer home losses
• The Pioneers have one home games remaining on their schedule (March 8 vs. Colorado College)
 
ACADEMIC HONORS
• Denver had 14 student-athletes named to the NCHC Academic All-Conference team and nine student-athletes named NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes, second-most in the conference
• To be eligible for the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must compile a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher while having completed at least one academic year at his institution. Student-athletes who have accrued a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher are honored as NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes, in addition to Academic All-Conference. Qualified freshmen will be added to the lists at the conclusion of the school year
 
LUKO LEADS THE WAY

• Denver is 8-0-2 when Lukosevicius scores and 9-7-2 when he doesn't. He scored his first two goals in seven games last Saturday
Jarid Lukosevicius has the all-time school record and is the NCAA active leader in career game-winning goals with 18. The all-time career leader is Austin Ortega (Omaha '14-'17 - 23)
 
FRESH FACES
• Denver's freshmen class is 4th in NCAA scoring with 87 points (30-57-87)
• The Pioneers' freshmen class accounts for 37% of the of the team's total points and 34% of the team's total goals
Emilio Pettersen is T-8th among NCAA freshman with 24 points
Cole Guttman is T-11th among NCAA freshmen with 10 goals
Slava Demin is T-5th among NCAA freshmen with a +16 plus/minus rating
 
WORKING OVERTIME
• The Pioneers have played nine overtime games this season, T-2nd-most in the NCAA. Denver is 4-1-4 in the extra period with the most overtime wins in the NCAA
 
MILLER HOCKEY COMPLEX
• The new home of Denver hockey is named after University of Denver's Board of Trustees member John A. Miller, his wife, Sandy, and their family
• The 4,464 square foot space houses the Pioneers' lockers, lounge, sauna, kitchen, training room and equipment room
• More than 150 donors contributed to the $2.5 million renovation
 
YOUNG PIONEERS

• At 29, David Carle is the youngest coach in Division I college hockey
• The Pioneers have the fourth-youngest team in college hockey with an average age of 20 years/8 months
• The Pioneers have 19 freshmen and sophomores, the most since the 2007-08 season when Tyler Bozak was a freshman
 
EXPERIENCED STAFF

• Assistant Coach Tavis MacMillan served as head coach of Alaska-Fairbanks from 2004-07
• Assistant Coach Dallas Ferguson served as head coach of Alaska-Fairbanks from 2008-17
• Volunteer Assistant Coach Steven Reinprecht played 663 NHL games over 11 NHL seasons, winning a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001
• Team Manager Ben Scrivens played 144 NHL games over five NHL seasons in addition to representing Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics
