BLACKSBURG – After a hard fought battle on Sunday morning, the No. 11 University of Denver women's lacrosse team fell to No. 24 Virginia Tech 15-14 in its first overtime game of the year. The Pioneers dropped to 7-2 on the season while the Hokies improved to 6-4.

The Crimson and Gold are now 1-5 all-time against VT, having last gone to overtime in 2006 where the Hokies won 11-10 on their home turf.

"It was a rough way to end a very competitive game," said head coach Liza Kelly. "But I was so proud of this team and their battle!"

Pioneer Performers:
Sophomore Quintin Hoch-Bullen led the team with four goals in the contest, followed by senior Julia Feiss who posted three.

Senior Audrey Schreck earned a career high seven draws, while Kendra Lanuza led with five points after two goals and three assists. Katherine Fischer also tallied four caused turnovers.

Amelia Cole and Carson Gregg each totaled two saves.

Timeline:
The Hokies were first on the board, scoring off a free position shot at 28:38. Eliza Radochonski responded three minutes later with her 18th goal of the season, assisted by Feiss. Virginia Tech took a two-goal lead, making it 3-1 almost 10-minutes into the first half, but the Pioneers went on a three-goal run to take the lead for the first time with 6-minutes remaining before halftime. VT responded with three in a row as well, making it 7-5 after the first 30-minutes of play.

Hoch-Bullen tabbed the first three goals of the second half, bringing the Pioneers to an 8-7 lead. After many back-and-forth moments, Feiss' third goal of the day was key, tying it up at 14-14 with just under four-minutes left in the game. No one else was able to get on the board, sending the Crimson and Gold to their first overtime game this season.

Virginia Tech's Sara Goodwin scored the game-winning goal 1:10 into the six-minute overtime.

What's Next:
The Pioneers will take an eight-day break before heading north to Boulder to face the Colorado Buffs at 4 p.m. MT on Tuesday, March 26.
