McCoy Ties for Eighth Place at the Duck Invitational

CRESWELL, OREGON – The University of Denver men's golf team completed play at the Duck Invitational on Tuesday. Cal McCoy, who was tied for sixth after two rounds, responded with a one-over-par 73 to finish tied for eighth place. The Pioneers recorded their best round of the tournament, posting a six-over-par 294.
Overall, DU (31-over) finished in 10th place. Oregon State fired a four-under-par 284 in the final round to claim the team title while Oregon sophomore Ryan Gronlund (five-under-par) was the individual medalist.
"The guys really competed hard today. The course was playing extremely tough with difficult hole locations," said assistant coach Brandon Wilkins. "Cal continues his fantastic freshman campaign with his second top-10 finish of the season. We are very lucky he is a Denver Pioneer. The guys are improving and we will have a few weeks off to work on things before we head to our next event in Houston."
Par at the 7,145-yard Emerald Valley Golf Club was 72.
McCoy backed up his solid first day, recording four birdies, three bogeys and a double to fire the 73. He made 10 birdies during the tournament en route to the top-10 finish.
Eric Hagen bounced back after tough opening rounds, posting one-over-par to finish tied for 41st.
Esteban Missura also had a good day for DU, recording two birdies and two bogeys to shoot even-par 72. Missura jumped up the leaderboard and finished tied for 49th.
John Sand made three birdies on the day, but two double bogeys led the sophomore to a round of four-over-par. He finished tied for 53rd place.
Senior Roy Kang shot six-over-par, finishing tied for 68th.
Next up: The Pioneers will head south to Houston, Texas to compete in the Bayou City Collegiate on April 15 and 16.
