[15] Pioneers Roll Over ODU to Open BIG EAST Play

DENVER – The No. 15 University of Denver women's lacrosse team defeated Old Dominion 20-1 to open BIG EAST play on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers pushed their win streak to two and improved to 9-3 on the year, while the Monarch's dropped to 3-10.

Sophomore Hannah Liddy was the glue that held it all together for the Crimson and Gold, earning a career high eight assists and 10 points, on top of two goals and one caused turnover, to take down ODU.

"This was an awesome start to conference play," said head coach Liza Kelly. "We played our game and executed everything that we worked on at practice this week."

By the Numbers:
A strong offense but even stronger defense is what led the Pioneers to their third 20-goal game this year. Denver totaled 17 draws, 16 shots, 12 ground balls, nine caused turnovers and five saves to hold ODU to only one goal, its lowest on the year.

The Pioneers also went a perfect 13-13 on clears, their best so far this season.

Pioneer Performers:
Elizabeth Behrins and Bea Behrins led the team with four goals apiece. Quintin Hoch-Bullen followed with three while Julia Feiss, Kailee Lammers and Liddy all notched two.

Molly Little took control of the midfield, totaling one goal, one assist, four ground balls, five draws and three caused turnovers.

Carson Gregg spent the first half in goal for the Pioneers, totaling four saves. Amelia Cole and Chloe Lewis replaced Gregg in the second half. Cole tallied one save during her 25-minutes in net.

Strong Start:
The Pioneers kicked off competition against the Monarchs with 17-straight goals, the longest run so far this season. ODU finally netted its first with 15-minutes remaining in the second half, but wasn't able to get another past the DU defense.

BIG EAST Season Openers:
The Crimson and Gold are now 2-1 in BIG EAST season openers, defeating Temple 14-6 in 2017 but falling to them 10-9 just one year later.

What's Next:
The Pioneers will hit the road on Saturday, April 6 to face Georgetown at 10 a.m. MT before returning home to Peter Barton on April 11 where they will host Fresno State.
