SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – University of Denver women's basketball junior forward Madison Nelson has been named the Summit League Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The honor is Nelson's second this season (Nov. 26^th) and Denver's third, as Lauren Loven received the honor back on January 7^th.

Denver went 2-0 last week, clinching the third overall seed in the Summit League tournament with wins over Western Illinois (94-85) and Omaha (82-76).  

Nelson a native of Dover, Minnesota, recorded back-to-back 20-plus point games in DU's perfect week, scoring 24 against WIU while matching a career-high with 28 points in the win over Omaha. She was just one rebound shy of recording consecutive double-doubles, grabbing nine boards against the Leathernecks and ten against the Mavericks. The double-double against Omaha is Nelson's 10^th of the season and fourth in Summit League play.

The junior finished the regular season leading the league in rebounding (9.0 rebounds per game), while ranking third in scoring (16.2 points per game) and steals (1.8 steals per game) and sixth in blocks (1.1 blocks per game).

·         She becomes just the fourth repeat winner this season, joining North Dakota's Lexi Klabo, South Dakota State's Macy Miller and Western Illinois' Taylor Higginbotham.

·         Nelson makes it two-straight years that a Pioneer has led the Summit League in rebounding, joining former teammate Jordy Alt who led the league with an 8.4 average last season.

·         Nelson's 9.0 rebounding average is the highest Summit League total since the 2015-16 season when NDSU's Marena Whittle averaged 10.3 per game.

Next Up: Denver, the three seed will begin the Summit League tournament on Sunday with a matchup against North Dakota at 1:30 pm MT.
