Seymour Wins Slalom National Championship on Final Day of NCAA's

STOWE, VERMONT – The University of Denver ski team completed the 2019 NCAA Championships on Saturday morning with the men's and women's slalom races. Jett Seymour made headlines, taking home the individual national championship in the men's slalom while Amelia Smart, Andrea Komsic and Tuva Norbye achieved All-America status in the women's slalom.

Denver (409 total points) finished fifth in its quest for two-straight national titles, behind Dartmouth (447 total points), Colorado (455 total points), Vermont (476 total points) and Utah (530.5 points, National Champions).

The Pioneers ended the championships with 10 All-America finishes by seven athletes behind only Colorado (11), Utah (12) and Vermont (13). Norbye and Komsic are joined by Nordic skier Jasmi Joensuu as the only Pioneers to record two All-America finishes during the NCAA's.

MEN'S SLALOM: Seymour had a fantastic day, recording the fastest time of the day en route to his individual national championship. Freshman Simon Fournier struggled on his first run but bounced back with the second-fastest second run to jump up the leaderboard and finish 14th for DU. Tobias Kogler, who recorded an All-America finish on Thursday, posted a solid first run but dropped to 32nd place after his second run.

WOMEN'S SLALOM: Smart, the defending national champion, finished just off the podium in fourth place, less than .2 seconds behind third place. Komsic, a senior, reached All-America status for the second time at the NCAA's, taking sixth place after recording the second-fastest run of the day. Norbye, also a senior, took ninth place and joined Komsic as the only Alpine athletes to reach All-America status in both races.

"I was happy to see our alpine team compete with such strength and confidence this week," said head coach Andy LeRoy. "Although the result was not what we wanted in the end, I am proud of all of our athlete's performances."
