Box Score BLOOMINGTON, ILL. – The University of Denver men's tennis team won 6-1 over Illinois State on Friday morning, remaining perfect in Summit League play. The Pios improve to 9-8 overall and 4-0 in the league with just three regular season matches remaining.
Denver's dominant day began in doubles, where the Pios took for the first two matches to grab an early lead. James Davis/Matt Summers blanked Egehan Sertkaya/Aleksa Lazarevic 6-0 and Mattia Ros/Pedro Fernandez Del Valle won 6-4 over Igor Kolaric/Diego Le Gal Perez to clinch the team point.
The Pioneers would continue to click in singles, winning five of the remaining six matches. Ignatius Castelino, Davis and Summers won the opening three matches to lock up the victory. Castelino knocked off Sertkaya 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6, Davis downed Le Gal Perez 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 and Summers defeated Pol Botifoll Rius 6-3, 6-1 to put DU up 4-0. With the match in hand, Fernandez Del Valle and Ros added two more victories. Fernandez Del Valle beat Jorge Adair Bartra Quispe 6-1, 7-6 at No. 4 while Ros won 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 over Kolaric at No. 1. Â
Next up: DU will finish out its final road trip of the year with another Summit League match at North Dakota on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. MT.
