Tulsa, Okla. - The Denver Pioneers men's tennis team defeated Oral Roberts 4-1 in the Summit League semifinal on Friday in Tulsa, Okla. Denver will play for its fifth Summit League Championship in six years on Saturday.
Denver battled during doubles play, dropping the team point despite Matt Summers/James Davis 7-5 win at No. 1. The Pioneers rebounded on the singles courts with four victories. Davis knocked off Russo 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, then Mattia Ros secured a 6-3, 6-1 win against Koncz at No. 2 and Pedro Fernandez del Valle dealt a 6-1, 6-2 victory to Moreira at No. 4 to give Denver a 3-1 advantage. Ignatius Castelino clinched the match for the Pioneers with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Boskov at No. 5.
The Pioneers will face the winner of Drake/Valparaiso for the Summit League Championship and automatic bid in the NCAA tournament on Saturday, April 27 at 12 p.m. MT.
