TULSA, OKLA. – The University of Denver men's tennis team defeated Oral Roberts 5-2 on Saturday afternoon to remain perfect in Summit League play. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 8-8 on the year and 3-0 in the Summit League.
Denver's day began with a victory in doubles play, winning the first two matches to secure the point.
James Davis/Matt Summers knocked off Barnabas Koncz/Nikola Boskov 6-2 at No. 1 and
Mattia Ros/Pedro Fernandez Del Valle beat Marcello Moreira/Andre Russo 6-4 to clinch the team point.
With the early advantage, the Pioneers would go on to win four singles matches to lock up the 5-2 win. Davis got a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3 to open singles while
Ignatius Castelino won 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 6 position. Oral Roberts then picked up its first victory of the day from No. 5 singles but Ros clinched the match with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles. With the match in hand, Summers added another victory for the Pios, winning 6-7. 6-0, 7-6 at No. 1 singles.
Next up: Denver continues its Summit League slate at Illinois State on Friday, April 12.
