TEMPE, ARIZ. – The No. 42 University of Denver women's tennis tell lost 4-3 to Arizona State on Sunday morning. The loss is Denver's second-straight and drops the Pios to 13-4 on the year.
The Sun Devils took the early lead after winning the first two matches of the day. Lauryn John-Baptiste/Ilze Hattingh took down
Bianca Mok/Camille Verden-Anderson 6-3 at No. 1 and Samantha Alicea/Sammi Hampton clinched the team point with a 6-2 victory at No. 2.
The squads split the first two singles matches, as No. 99 Mok defeated Hattingh 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 while Alicea won at No. 6. Verden-Anderson evened the match at 2 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Hampton but Tereza Kolarova won at No. 3 for ASU to put the Sun Devils back in front.
Hada Chang then won 5-7, 7-6 6-3 over Savannah Slaysman at No. 5 but Arizona State won the final match of the day to secure the victory.
Next up:Â Denver will return to action on Saturday April 13 when the Pios take on Western Illinois at 10:30 am MT.
