TUCSON, ARIZ. – The No. 42 University of Denver women's tennis team fell 4-3 to Arizona on Saturday afternoon. The loss snaps a five-match winning streak and drops DU to 13-3 overall.
Arizona took the early lead after doubles competition, winning the first two matches to go up 1-0. Emma Wilson/Sophia Thomas took down Bianca Mok/Camille Verden-Anderson 6-4 at No. 1 and Marie Van Aelst/Talya Zandberg clinched the point with a 6-3 win at No. 3.
DU charged back in singles play, winning two-straight to take the lead. Anna Riedmiller defeated Camila Wesbrooks '6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 while Verden-Anderson won 6-3, 6-1 over Thomas at No. 5. The Wildcats got back on track with a win from Van Aeist at the No. 4 position but No. 99 Mok won 6-3, 7-6 at No. 1 to put Denver ahead 3-2. Arizona then won two consecutive matches at No. 5 and No. 3 to knock off the Pioneers.
Next up: Denver will continue its Arizona swing with a match against Arizona State on Sunday, April 7 at 9 am MT.
