Denver’s Season Comes to a Close at NCAA Regional

Pioneers take 15th at NCAA Regional
OPELIKA, Ala. – The University of Denver golf team saw its season finish up on Wednesday at the NCAA Regional. The Pioneers fired a team score of 301, 13-over-par.
DU wrapped up the tournament in 15th in the 18-team field.
Par for 6,731-yard course was 72 at the Saugahatchee Country Club.
Head coach Lindsay Kuhle went with the lineup of Mary Weinstein, Sophie Newlove, Camille Enright, Alyson Bean and Trussy Li.
Sixth-ranked Vanderbilt took home the team title at 4-under, three strokes of No. 11 Florida State.
The top six teams and three individuals advanced on the NCAA Championships.
"You know we really couldn't get any putts to fall this week," Kuhle said. "We didn't make the usual amount we usually do. It was a disappointing finish to the season but I'm very proud of how Sophie finished her career today going 2-under in her last three holes for an even-par round. And for a spectacular tournament for Trussy with a 7-over.
"The future is very bright with our underclassmen and four freshmen coming in. We will continue to attract have players on this team who are disciplined, coachable, confident and competitive. Being able to handle the pressure at this competitive level at Regionals and in postseason is what we will continue to work on and with that will help us prepare for the national championship when we get that opportunity again."
Li wrapped up her impressive regional debut, taking 41st with a three-round total of 7-over.
Weinstein ended her year tied for 57th with a 54-hole total of 226 (10-over).
Newlove went out in style in her collegiate career with a 72 in her final round as a Pioneer, jumping the senior up into a tie for 67th.
Bean tied for 79th.
Enright closed out tied in 92nd.
The Pioneers will be back in action in the fall.
