DU Gymnastics Welcomes Jimmy Pratt as Assistant Coach

DENVER – The University of Denver women's gymnastics team has named Jimmy Pratt as assistant coach, head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart announced on Wednesday.

Pratt has spent the last 18 years at All American Gymnastics in the Salt Lake City area, including as the women's head coach since 2011. In 2009-10, he served as the volunteer assistant coach at Brigham Young University.

"I'm very excited to welcome Jimmy and his family to the University of Denver gymnastics family," Kutcher-Rinehart said. "He embraces our philosophy of teamwork, character and excellence; and his experience and technical knowledge will be a tremendous asset to the team."

During his time at All American Gymnastics, Pratt coached gymnasts who would go on to capture a combined 10 All-Americans honors in the NCAA. His athletes have also won six Level 10 JO national championships since 2016, and 16 of his gymnasts are currently competing for Division I programs. With Pratt as head coach, All American Gymnastics was named the 2016 Region 1 Program of the Year.

"The opportunity to work with Melissa and the entire staff, and to be part of the magic and culture that is DU is the chance of a lifetime," Pratt said. "My family and I are chomping at the bit to get to Denver and get to work."

Pratt graduated from BYU in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science with an emphasis in fitness and wellness. From 2011-16, he attended monthly developmental national team training camps with USA Gymnastics to learn the latest coaching techniques, and he has attended USA Gymnastics national congress classes since 2003.

Pratt will be the team's primary vault and floor coach, and will begin coaching in Denver on July 8. He replaces Jay Hogue, who announced his retirement on May 13.

The Pioneers are coming off an historic 2019 campaign that saw DU advance to its first-ever NCAA team final. Denver achieved a fourth-place finish, shattering the previous program record of ninth in 2017. Returning for the 2020 season will be floor national champion Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) and All-Americans Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.), Alexandria Ruiz (Lake Mary, Fla.) and Alexis Vasquez (Arcadia, Calif.).
