Pioneers Start Fast at Ram Masters Invitational

McCoy tied for ninth at 2-under
FORT COLLINS –The University of Denver men's golf team opened the season with a solid day one at the Ram Masters Invitational on Monday. The Pioneers finished the day tied for fourth at 7-over as a team.
Par for the 7,121-yard course was 70 at Fort Collins Country Club.
Host Colorado State leads the 17-team field after day one thanks to a hot second-round team performance. The Rams ended the day at 10-under, seven strokes ahead of Wyoming.
Head coach Erik Billinger went with the lineup of Cal McCoy, Eric Hagen, Carson Griggs, Esteban Missura and Jackson Solem.
John Sand and Jun Ho Won also competed, but as individuals.
"I thought the guys had a good day for most of the afternoon," Billinger said. "There was some good golf being played out there. We need to clean some small stuff up but there were a lot of positives out there. The guys are in a good, positive mindset and ready to compete tomorrow."
McCoy started his sophomore campaign in style, finishing the day tied for ninth at 2-under. The Highlands Ranch native worked his way around the course on the afternoon, recording four birdies in his second round.
Missura wrapped up his first 36 holes tied in 24th at 2-over.
Griggs closed out Monday tied for 34th at 3-over.
Solem finished up tied for 46th.
Hagen ended in a tie for 57th.
Sand and Ho Won each are tied for 24th with Missura at 2-over.
Final-round play is set for Tuesday.
