DENVER – The University of Denver women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 result to [RV/20] Colorado on Saturday night at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.
"It's always tough to lose your first home match of the season," head coach
Jeff Hooker said. "I thought we played a really good first half. We had a lot of great attacking play, but we just couldn't make the last play we needed to in the final third. We got undisciplined on their goal, but we still felt good with how we were playing at halftime. I don't think we knocked it around as well in the second half, and then we started having to chase the game and got a bit stretched out."
CU opened the scoring in the 35
th minute on Libby Geraghty's first of the season. Taylor Kornieck picked up her fifth helper on the Buffs breakthrough. Kornieck got free down the left channel and played a cross into Geraghty. Geraghty took a touch in-between Denver's two centerbacks and chipped it over
Brittany Wilson for the opener.
The Buffaloes doubled their advantage in the 74
th-minute when Tessa Barton knocked her third goal of the season into an empty net, taking advantage of a miss-judged Pioneers' back pass.
Colorado outshot the Pioneers 15-5 and took four of the seven corners in the match.
