MacMillan’s Late Goal Rescues a Draw for Denver at UC Riverside

The Pioneers will close out non-conference play at [RV/-] Cal State Northridge on Sunday at 2 p.m. MT

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of Denver women's soccer team got its third latest regulation goal in its Division I history through sophomore Camryn MacMillan's (Littleton, Colo.) first of the 2019 campaign to earn a share of the spoils at 1-1 on Thursday night at UCR Soccer Stadium.

"I know it wasn't a win, but it was a super gutsy performance from our team tonight," head coach Jeff Hooker said. "After going down a goal off another mistake, I thought we put that behind us well and got our goal off great combination play and a brilliant individual effort from Cam. I thought we had the best chances of the game and in overtime, and just couldn't get a second."

Denver controlled the pace of play in the opening 45 minutes, outshooting the home side 10-1 in the first half, while putting three of its 10 shots on target. The Pioneers also took three of the four corner kicks in the first 45.

UC Riverside's second shot on target of the match was the breakthrough on Thursday night when Alexis Vera found the back of the net in the 61st minute to give UCR the advantage. Shanya Dhindsa and Amanda Roy earned helpers on the opener.

MacMillan scored her first goal of the season with eight seconds to play in regulation to level the match at 1-1. Sophomore Samantha Feller (Grand Junction, Colo.) setup MacMillan's equalizer to earn her fifth career assist. MacMillan's goal was the eighth of her career, and her second game-tying goal in the final minute of a match (at North Dakota State – 10/4/18).

MacMillan's goal was the third-latest regulation goal in Denver's Division I history, behind only Kristen Hamilton's winner as time expired against Purdue in 2010 (90:00) and Jamie Norwood's equalizer with six seconds to play (89:54) against Eastern Illinois in 2002, a match the Pioneers went on to win 4-3 in extra time.

The goal was the eighth equalizer in the final five minutes in Denver's Division I history.

Denver held a 14-7 edge in shots in regulation.

The Pioneers took the only three shots of the first overtime period. Feller and freshman Sydney Sharp (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) each had their first shots of extra time blocked, and Feller pushed a 98th-minute attempt wide.

Senior Hannah Adler (Oak Park, Calif.) had an extra time penalty saved to keep the match at 1-1.
