Coming off an undefeated opening weekend to start the year, the Pioneers gear up for another three-game tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Denver Recap:
Denver enters the weekend undefeated after taking down San Francisco (3-1), Southern Mississippi (3-0) and Seattle (3-0) on its home court to open the 2019 campaign. The Pios were dominate both offensively and defensively, dropping just one set over the three matches.
The Pioneers were led offensively by junior
Lydia Bartalo who topped the team in kills with 38 total through three matches with her season-high of 15 coming against Seattle. Other Pio stat leaders coming into the Invitational are
Macy Carrabine who has a team-high 30 digs,
Brianna Green recording 12 total blocks and
Ellie Anderson with a team-high 51 assists. Denver accumulated an attack percentage of .227 and totaled 21 blocks through the 10-set weekend.
Denver vs Sacramento State:Â

Scouting the Hornets: Â Sacramento State enters the tournament with a .500 record at 2-2. After opening their season taking matches from Canisus (3-0) and CSU Bakersfield (3-2) the Hornets dropped a pair of matches to Nevada (3-1) and UC Davis (3-1). The Hornets average 10.88 kills per set with a .150 hitting rate. Leading the offensive attack is senior Sarah Davis with a team-high 61 kills while junior Cianna Andrews leads the Hornets in blocks with 22 on the year.
Last Meeting: The only meeting between the Pios and the Hornets came just a year ago on September 1, 2018. The match went five sets, with Denver running away with the final set to clinch the match 3-2.
Denver vs. Army West Point Â

Scouting The Black Knights: Army also enter the weekend undefeated after going 3-0 at the Army Invitational to open the season, taking matches from New Hampshire (3-0), Rhode Island (3-1) and Iona (3-0). Courtney Horace leads the Knights in kills on the season with 33 while junior setter has a team-high 63 assists on the year. The team as a whole has totaled 135 kills, 22 blocks and 28 service aces through 10 sets of action.
Last Meeting: Denver and Army West Point have met just once, dating back to September 8
th, 2012. The Pios took the match in a three-set sweep to down the Black Knights. Â
Denver at HawaiiÂ

    Location: Honolulu, Hawaii
    Overall: 0-0 | First MeetingÂ
Scouting the Warriors: Hawaii enters their home Invitational with a 3-0 record. The Warriors were pushed to five sets twice in their three-game stint this past weekend, edging out victories against San Diego (3-2) and St. John's (3-2) while earning a 3-1 victory over Washington to close out their weekend. Hawaii is led by redshirt Junior Jolie Rasmussen, who totaled 55 kills through three matches with an attack average of .347. Freshman Amber Igiede led the defensive attack with 19 total blocks as UH as a whole totaled 49 blocks. This will be the first meeting between the two schools since the University of Denver volleyball program turned Division I in 1998.
